Chantix
Varenicline (trade name Chantix in the USA and Champix in Europe and other countries, marketed by Pfizer, usually in the form of Varenicline Tartrate) is a prescription drug used to treat smoking addiction. As a partial agonist, it both reduces cravings for and decreases the pleasurable effects of cigarettes and other tobacco products, and through these mechanisms it can assist some patients in stopping smoking. Varenicline has been proven to help people quit:
- In studies, 44% of Chantix users quit during weeks 9 to 12 of treatment (vs 18% on sugar pill).
- It is a non-nicotine pill.
- It can reduce the urge to smoke.
